We’re built on a family legacy of high-craft and high-performance.

Low-Carbon, High-Craft, High-Fives

Based in Seattle, we’re custom builders who believe in good people, great design, and a job done right.

Bucktide was named for our founder Alex’s grandfather — a ship captain and second-grade teacher who spent his summers on a fishing boat. Folks called him “Bucktide” for a reason. He wasn’t one to follow the current, and neither are we.

That spirit anchors everything we do. We’re a design-focused, craftsman-led construction company driven by relationships, collaboration, and high performance. Spanning new construction, remodels, and home additions, our projects are built to last.

Low-carbon building is central to our work at Bucktide. Alex is a certified Passive House builder specializing in sustainable material choices, airtight assemblies, and energy-efficient systems. For us, sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s a practical, proven approach to building better homes.

The Bucktide Process

We’re both adaptable and precise. We follow the project where it leads, allowing the best ideas to rise to the surface. Collaboration comes first, determination second, and innovation ties it all together.

We’re determined, not stubborn. Craft-driven, not fancy.

And when the tide turns, we team up, lean in, and keep building.

Bucktide Values

  • Innovative work builds strong relationships

  • Offer choices in challenging moments

  • Collaboration first, determination second

  • Flexibility, flow, and craft

  • Lead with inspiration

  • A job done right

Alex Saunders

Alex Saunders, founder of Bucktide General Contractors, smiling outdoors, wearing a gray cap, black t-shirt, and a leather backpack, standing in front of a construction wall.

Alex didn’t set out to start a construction company. He just wanted to build something that mattered. Born and raised in Washington, Alex studied Geography at the University of Washington, a degree that gave him a big-picture view of how people live in the spaces they build.

After building a home for his grandmother — designed by his mom — Alex caught the business-owner bug. One project led to another, and before long, he found himself steering a company built on curiosity, craftsmanship, and care.

Alex launched Bucktide in 2017 and grew the business by instinct and grit, learning from other builders and surrounding himself with good people. Today, he’s known for blending high-craft building with deep technical knowledge — especially in high-performance and Passive House construction, where airtightness, efficiency, and design precision come together.

Alex hires carefully, pairing skill with personality, and he leads from the same place he builds: right alongside his crew. His clients often become friends, and his employees stick around because they know he’s got their back.

At heart, Alex is a dreamer, a helper, and a friend — someone who loves architecture, craftsmanship, and the people who make both possible.
