Alki Lookout: Published on Domino
New kitchen, reoriented with custom banquette and dining table overlooking the sea.
Bucktide recently completed a large remodel above the beach with SHED Architecture, our Alki Lookout project. Featured on Domino magazine in September, the remodel encompassed big moves, inside and out. The original house, built as a log cabin in 1910, underwent two previous remodels, resulting in small, disconnected rooms. SHED’s design brings connection, flow, and a sense of play by layering in color, texture, and “dopamine decor” that expresses the clients’ personalities and creates room for their growing family.

To accommodate this bold design direction, Bucktide essentially rebuilt the home from the inside out, removing walls, upgrading mechanical and electrical systems, shoring up the old foundation, waterproofing, and re-siding the exterior. Bucktide’s woodshop fabricated all kitchen cabinets, wood features, and built-ins, which was a major request by the clients—more storage. Above, we’re photographing the home with Rafael Soldi.

The kitchen cabinets are made of Douglas fir, the upstairs cabinets are both fir and painted, and the slat screens on the stairs are also made of fir.

Upstairs in the main bedroom, the design prioritizes light and storage: there are built-in cabinets under the lounge, as well as bedside cabinets. New wood panels line the wall and add warmth.
Dream tream: owner, architect, superintendent
The joy and color of this project truly reflect these clients. Above (from left) are the homeowner, the architect, and our superintendent. While we’ll definitely miss this site and its expansive views, even more, we’ll miss this dream team and the fun collaboration in bringing this distinctive house to life.
